Bread Results

Welcome to the Sunday wrap up and what appears to be my cooking blog.  Or maybe it is my baking blog?  Not sure, but here are some pictures of what I made over the last few days. Lighting is terrible in these photos, but use your imagination.

The bread I made was a peasant bread recipe that did not require kneading it. It sounded easy enough and it was.  I made one version with all purpose flour and a second with whole wheat flour. Just trying some new things.

I knew the whole wheat version was bound to be dry so I tried to jazz it up with chopped garlic, salt and rosemary. I was channeling Macaroni Grill's delicious bread and I was hopeful.

The all purpose white loaf was great. Soft and chewy. It did not have a crispy crust so that was a little disappointing.

I wanted the whole wheat rolls to be great - but they were not. They were dry and awful.  So, that is a lesson learned. Quit trying to make bread healthy. It is only worth eating if it is soft and yummy. Go to Macaroni Grill to get their delicious bread. You don't have to make everything.

Side by side - whole wheat on the top, white bread on the bottom. I am really looking for a bread recipe that rivals the old rolls we used to get in school. This was not it, but I am going to keep looking at recipes. Probably need to try some versions that require kneading. I will keep you posted. Riveting content, I know.

In other brown food news - I made some vegan pancakes with caramelized bananas for breakfast this morning. Caramelized bananas are pretty yummy. I also made another giant green juice! So there has been some color happening in the kitchen around here.

I made this cheese tortellini soup over the weekend (thanks for the recipe, Beth!) and it was great with the homemade bread. Soup and bread - what a fabulous combination. Hit the spot!

In addition to playing in the kitchen, I cleaned out my closet and the cabinets in my master bathroom because my bathroom renovation starts in about eight days!  I cannot wait!  This has been in the works for months and months!  I will post some of the inspiration pictures tomorrow so you can see what I am shooting for!

Hope you are ready for Monday, people!  It is coming at us fast and furious!  Let's go be mediocre!!!

  1. You are very disciplined!
I have issues with bread in my diet. It seems if I'm around soft, steamy, delicious bread, rolls, etc. I will stuff myself with them. Therefore, no delicious bread is allowed in my home. Also, cheese seem to cause safe effect on me. I may be allergic, LOL!
