I finally wrapped up all that dreadful proposal work and 70 hour work weeks, just in time for my trip to Iceland. I spent all day yesterday running here, there and everywhere trying to get my act together! Fell into bed last night at 9:30 p.m. because the alarm was set for 3:20 a.m.!
What in the exact hell was I thinking?
I am sure I was thinking, "I love mornings! The earlier the better! Let's get the vacation party started."
Man, was I kicking myself in the hindsight this morning.
I got out of the house at 4:07 a.m. and made the drive to the airport. I parked my car and even my super timely Fast Park folks were hustling. The first parking shuttle bus stopped and told me he was full and was sending another shuttle bus. The second shuttle was there in no time and I was the first one on. I thought he would jet me right over to the terminal, but no he tried to be efficient and pick up eight more people. I knew I had plenty of time, but I was starting to get a bit anxious. I made it into the terminal about 4:55 a.m. The place was a beehive of activity. So many damn people everywhere. I checked in for my flight online last night, so all I had to do was drop my suitcase at the Delta counter and head to security. Perfect!
I walked into the airport and glanced down the terminal and saw a huge line. I thought it was the security line and my stomach started hurting. Yikes it was long. Turns out it was the Delta drop luggage line! Oh no, now my stomach is really hurting. There were seriously 100 people in line to drop bags. I stood in line for about 45 minutes and it was not moving fast. There were lots of antsy people. I like to be at the gate two hours early and now my flight is going to start boarding in 20 minutes and I still have 40 people in front of me! Acccckkk!
A Delta employee comes from behind the counter and pulls the Boston 6:20 flight folks out of line to rush us through the baggage drop off. 10 more minutes. Finally, I have my bag dropped and head to security.
It took another 10 minutes or so to get through security and finally I am power walking to my gate. They are already boarding Zone 1. Whew! I wasn't boarding until Zone 4, but holy mackerel that was by the skin of my teeth in my book!
I didn't even have time for coffee! NO COFFEE people!
But I made it, the plane door closed and I was in my seat! Landed safely in Boston and have found a coffee and a little spot in the terminal to wait on the rest of my crew!
Now, we can get this party started!
Hope to post from Iceland so you guys can come along with me! Should be a trip of a lifetime!
